?SayWhat?

Legal documents, in plain English.

Upload any legal document — a lease, an employment contract, an NDA, insurance policy, or terms of service — and get a clear, section-by-section explanation of what it actually says. Your documents never leave your device.

You shouldn't need a lawyer to understand what you're signing.

Legal documents are written to be precise for lawyers — not readable for everyone else. Clauses are long, words are archaic, and the things that actually matter to you are buried in dense paragraphs.

So most people sign without fully understanding what they're agreeing to — rent hikes, non-compete clauses, data rights, auto-renewal traps.

SayWhat? changes that.

Three steps. About a minute.

1

Upload your document

Drop in a PDF, DOCX, TXT file, or a photo of a paper document. It's processed right on your device — its content is never uploaded.

2

See it explained section by section

SayWhat?'s AI reads the document and explains each clause in plain English — the original text above, the plain-language meaning below, one section at a time.

3

Understand what you're signing

Walk away actually knowing what the document says. Just a clear translation of each clause so you can make your own decision.

See it in action.

Here's what SayWhat? does with a real lease clause.

Original Clause

“Tenant shall not assign, sublet, or otherwise transfer this Lease or any interest herein without prior written consent of Landlord, which consent may be withheld in Landlord's sole and absolute discretion. Any attempted assignment in violation of this provision shall be null and void ab initio.”

Plain English

You can't sublet this apartment or transfer your lease to someone else unless your landlord says yes in writing. The landlord can say no for any reason. If you try to sublet without permission, the sublet is automatically invalid and has no legal effect.

Your documents never leave your device.

Most apps upload your contracts and agreements to their servers. SayWhat? doesn't.

Our AI runs directly in your browser. Your document is processed on your device and never leaves it. Even we can't read it. Not the lease. Not the NDA. Not your name tied to your agreements.

Your legal documents are yours. We built SayWhat? so they stay that way.

🔒

Your documents stay on your device

Your document is read, translated, and stored entirely in your browser. Only metadata (file name, type, word count) is saved to your account. We never have your document content.

🤖

AI on your device, not our server

The AI that explains your document runs in your browser, not on our servers. Your legal information never travels across the internet to an AI company. It stays on your computer.

📥

You control your history

Your document history (metadata) is yours. Delete any entry anytime — it's gone. The translation itself lives only on your device, where it belongs.

Any legal document. Explained in plain English.

🏠

Leases

Rent increases, security-deposit rules, renewal terms, and the fine print about who fixes what. SayWhat? walks you through every clause so you know what you're actually agreeing to.

💼

Employment contracts

Non-compete clauses, termination terms, equity and bonuses, confidentiality agreements. Understand what your offer really says before you sign.

📋

Terms of service

The agreements you click 'accept' on every day. SayWhat? translates them into plain English so you know what the company can do with your data and what rights you give up.

🤝

NDAs & contracts

Non-disclosure agreements, partnership agreements, vendor contracts, loan documents. Get a clear read on every section without a law degree.

System requirements

SayWhat? runs AI directly in your browser (WebLLM). On your first use, it downloads the AI model (~4-5 GB) — this takes a few minutes and only happens once. After that, translations work even offline.

  • Desktop or laptop with 8GB RAM (recommended) or 16GB+ (best quality)
  • Mobile is coming soon — SayWhat? currently runs on desktop and laptop computers.
  • A stable internet connection for the initial model download (~4-5 GB, one time)

SayWhat? runs AI entirely in your browser (WebLLM) so your documents stay private. That AI currently requires desktop WebGPU support, which is why mobile isn't available yet — it's coming. For now, use SayWhat? on a desktop or laptop computer.

Frequently asked questions

No. SayWhat? is a tool that translates legal documents into plain English. It doesn't give legal advice, doesn't tell you whether to sign anything, and doesn't flag risks. It just explains what each clause says, in words you can understand.
